Portulaca Grandiflora – Moss Rose
These are quite famous and very common succulent flowering plants. Known by many other names including rose moss, eleven o’clock, Mexican rose, sun rose, rock rose, purslane, moss-rose purslane, etc.
Portulacas are small but fast-growing succulents which can be found growing on random walls of old buildings and architectures. Found in many different varieties with variations in their flower patterns and colors. Some of them are edible and are sometimes harvested from the wild for their edible seeds and leaves.
Spotted this little guy during my plant foraging trip a few days back, this plant was growing in the sandy soil in between rocks next to a famous local dam (Gangrel Dam). So I picked it up, took him home, and planted in an empty pot, and from the second pic, it’s clear that the plant is doing great so far. Even though these are succulents, they can be easily grown in normal soil.
Also it can be seen on the second pic the leaves have swollen up when given sufficient water, as compared to the first pic in which the leaves looks curled inwards to save water.
