Peace Lily – Spathiphyllum Wallisii.
Spathiphyllum is a genus of around 40+ species of monocotyledonous flowering plants in the family Araceae, native to tropical regions of America and southeastern Asia. Sometimes also known as closet plants, these are a popular choice for keeping indoors in offices and homes and also the easiest to care for. Peace lilies aren’t really lilies (Liliaceae) they are called-so due to the white flowers which resemble those of the calla lily.
Like most other house plants, Peace lilies are adaptable, low-maintenance, and enjoy medium to low light. Under the presence of too strong light, the leaves start yellowing, and direct bright sunlight may scorch the soft part of leaves. They’re known to produce more flowers and brighter foliage If kept in a bright-lit area. Forgiving nature, easy-care, and air-purifying capabilities makes Peace Lily a popular houseplant amongst the new plant owners and hobbyists.
One of the greatest tips to keep Peace lily happy is believing in the fact that the plant itself tells if they’re thirsty, the leaves will sag a bit, and droop slightly when it needs water. Keeping the soil evenly moist and aerated promotes growth. Care should be taken when using tap-water as these are sensitive to chlorine, fluorine, and other salts. Municipality water can be easily dechlorinated by filling it in a container and allowing it to stand overnight.
.
The big-wide leaves tend to be a dust magnet. Washing or wiping them down with a damp cloth helps in processing the sunlight better. The leaves have capabilities of breaking down and neutralizing toxic gases such as benzene, formaldehyde, and carbon monoxide which makes them perfect air purifiers for indoors. Keeping in mind their mild toxicity due to the presence of calcium oxalates which can cause irritation to the animal’s mouth and stomach, which makes them poisonous to cats and dogs.
